Maclean's magine covers Matthew's pioneering of binaural music production.

Maclean’s has run an informative story about my career, with a special focus on the binaural techniques I’m developing for the new album, “Full Circle”.

Matthew Lien performing “Headwaters – Music of the Peel River Watershed”

My sincerest thanks to reporter Rhiannon Russell for conducting such detailed and in-depth interviews. It’s not easy to take an advanced technical topic and convey that in a way that’s easily understood by the reader.

And of course, many thanks to Maclean’s magazine for featuring me in this issue.

My work gathering more binaural 3D sound recordings is nearly complete, with studio development already underway. I hope to have this new music to you before mid-2020.

Many thanks to “What’s Up Yukon” for the story on my recent return to the Yukon and my pursuit of binaural recording.

After more than a decade working mostly in southeast Asia, it’s been exciting to re-open my Whitehorse recording studio, Whispering Willows Recording, and to connect with Yukon and Canada based partners for the development of new binaural recording techniques.

My record company, Whispering Willows Records Inc., is the oldest operating record label in the Yukon and has been functioning mainly in support of my Asia activities. But with my growing focus on binaural recording, Canada’s support for the music industry and for innovation is extremely helpful, as is the serenity found in the Yukon.
